Authorities responded to the 2400 block of West Gladys Monday morning at around 7:45 a.m. on the report of a stabbing.
After an argument, police allege Christian Gardner, 35, took out a knife, stabbed a 64-year-old man multiple times in the chest and back and then ran off.
Sources told WGN News the victim was working as a laborer and was working at the time.
Gardner was taken into custody nearly three hours later in the 0-100 block of South Western.
Illinois State Police said they recovered the knife on the Eisenhower nearby.
Gardner was scheduled to have a detention hearing Wednesday, but it was delayed until Thursday.
