The DOJ said along with the closure of these investigations, they will take back findings of constitutional violations by the Biden administration.
The other police departments that were affected by the decision include those in Phoenix, Arizona, Trenton, New Jersey, Memphis, Tennessee, Mount Vernon, New York, and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Days before the end of the Biden administration, the DOJ said LSP took part in unconstitutional practices, including the violation of the Fourth Amendment.
The latest decision by the DOJ marks the end of an investigation that started on June 9, 2022.
Louisiana First News contacted LSP for comment about this decision by the DOJ and will share any information as it becomes available.
Along with ending the investigations into the listed police departments, the DOJ also announced that it is starting the process of dismissing lawsuits against the Louisville, Kentucky, and Minneapolis, Minnesota police departments.
The Civil Rights Division will be working to permanently end those lawsuits and pull back the findings of constitutional violations by the Biden administration.
“Overbroad police consent decrees divest local control of policing from communities where it belongs, turning that power over to unelected and unaccountable bureaucrats, often with an anti-police agenda,” said Assistant Attorney General Harmeet K. Dhillon of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division. “Today, we are ending the Biden Civil Rights Division’s failed experiment of handcuffing local leaders and police departments with factually unjustified consent decrees.”
