Wanted man arrested in Lancaster County for New Jersey shooting

LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) — Lancaster County’s Special Emergency Response Team arrested a man who was wanted in New Jersey for allegedly shooting at a group of people outside a restaurant, striking one person.

According to the Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office, on May 9 at around 9 p.m., Jaylen A. McCray, 18, of Union, N.J., allegedly fired a handgun toward a group of people in the 200 block of Morris Avenue in Elizabeth City, N.J., striking one man in the leg, following a fight.

Elizabeth City Police told the Lancaster DA’s Office that McCray shot at the group of people moments after having been involved in a fight with them inside a nearby liquor store. The fight and the shooting were both captured on video surveillance footage.

The DA’s Office said an arrest warrant was released, and on May 14, Lancaster SERT officers and U.S. Marshals executed the warrant and arrested McCray without incident at a residence in the 300 block of South Ann Street in Lancaster City. Several streets in the area were closed for about 45 minutes during the arrest.

McCray was charged with aggravated assault and two firearms offenses in Elizabeth City, N.J. McCray is not charged with any crimes in Lancaster County, per the DA’s Office. He is currently held in Lancaster County Prison, awaiting extradition.
