Man who murdered Fresno State student denied parole: DA

MADERA COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – The man sentenced for murdering his ex-girlfriend, a Fresno State student, over two decades ago, has been denied parole, the Madera County District Attorney’s Office said.

In 1997, the DA’s office says Jacob Travis shot his ex-girlfriend, a 20-year-old Fresno State student, twice in the head. He then abandoned her body in a car in a Madera County orchard and set it on fire.

Travis remained a fugitive until he was arrested in Washington in 2001.

On Saturday, the DA’s office announced that he was denied parole for three years. The Parole Board told him he was doing well and encouraged him to take classes regarding healthy relationships, emotional intelligence and others.
