A man wanted on sex charges in Newton County has been arrested in Missouri. Forty-two-year-old Jared Ross Vandyne of Springfield was arrested by Springfield Police Wednesday afternoon, the same day a warrant was issued for his arrest in Newton County.
According to the probable cause affidavit in the case from the Arkansas State Police, Vandyne is accused of having inappropriate sexual contact with an eight-year-old family member at a cabin in Compton. Vandyne told investigators he “sleep walked” into the victim’s room while he was drunk and fell asleep in her bed where the incident happened. The next morning, he told the victim to keep the incident between them and it was their secret.
Vandyne is facing a felony charge of second degree sexual assault. His bond will be set at $100,000 once he is booked into the Newton County Jail. He is also ordered to have no contact with the victim or her mother.
Currently, Vandyne is being held in the Greene County Jail in Springfield without bond awaiting extradition.
