According to Chicago police, 25-year-old Kemonte Rice, a Chicago Lawn resident, has been charged with one felony count of causing child endangerment or death and one felony count of obstructing justice or the destruction of evidence.
Officers said the charges stem from Rice’s role in the fatal shooting of a teen boy inside a home in Englewood back in March.

An initial report by Chicago police indicated that the incident unfolded just before 7 p.m. on Monday, March 24, at a home in the 500 block of West 65th Place, Englewood.
Officers said the teen boy and Rice were inside the home that day when a gun was fired and the teen was struck in the chest.
The victim, who was later identified as 13-year-old Tawon Tribble, was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
According to the Medical Examiner’s Office, Tribble lived about a block away from where the shooting happened.
Following the shooting, a police source told WGN-TV that Tribble and Rice may have been in the same room when the incident allegedly unfolded.
Rice was eventually taken into custody by members of the Area One Homicide Investigative Support Team on Monday in the 8100 block of South Ashland Avenue.
Rice is set to appear in court on Tuesday for a detention hearing.
