The Cubs recalled Shaw from the Iowa Cubs on Monday and designated Nicky Lopez for assignment in a corresponding move.
Since being sent back down to the minors on April 15, Shaw has slashed .286/.409/.560 with a .970 OPS in 24 games. He has six home runs, five doubles, 14 RBI and five stolen bases, while also drawing 17 walks compared to striking out just 11 times in 110 plate appearances.
Shaw made the opening day roster with the North Siders, making his MLB debut on March 18 against the Los Angeles Dodgers. He is hitting .172 with one home run and a .294 on-base percentage in 18 games with the Cubs this season.
Lopez, a Naperville native who has also spent time with the Chicago White Sox, played in 14 games and made five starts for the North Siders this season. He went 1-18 with four walks, two runs scored and one RBI.
The Cubs play the Miami Marlins Monday, with first pitch set for 5:40 p.m. CT. Ben Brown (3-3, 4.75 ERA) is slated to take the mound for Chicago opposite Edward Cabrera (0-1, 5.52 ERA) of the Marlins.
