Census data: Rockford’s population rises as Freeport faces a drop in residents

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Rockford gained nearly 700 new residents between July 2023 and 2024, according to data from the U.S. Census.

Combined, Loves Park and Machesney Park gained just over 300.

Belvidere saw a population increase of 16.

Freeport, on the other hand, lost 150 residents.

North of the border, Beloit gained nearly 150 people.

The annual U.S. Census Bureau report reflects the population estimates as of July 1st, 2024.

Most of Northern Illinois saw an increased number of residents over the past year.
