Officials said bond was denied for 20-year-old Amardius Mack on three counts of attempted capital murder on a law enforcement officer. Mack has also been charged with two counts of auto burglary and one count of weapon on school property.
Bailey Martin, press secretary for the Mississippi Department of Public Safety (DPS), said officers responded to a call for service regarding a suspicious person on May 14. Police said the incident occurred in the 1500 block of West Pine Street near Timothy Lane around 9:10 a.m.
When officers arrived, they said the Mack displayed a firearm, which resulted in an exchange of gunfire between the suspect and the officers. Mack was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. No officers were injured during the shooting.
Mack is being held in the Forrest County Jail.
Agents with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) are investigating the shooting and will share their findings with the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office.
