Another Abilene day care closing for good after 30+ years

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – Another Abilene day care is closing for good after after more than 30 years of operation.

Pathways Learning Center, which is the day care at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church, is closing effective August 15.

The closure affects only the center’s five-day-a-week fulltime day care, and not the Children’s Day Out program.

KTAB and KRBC have reached out to Pioneer Drive Baptist Church to get more information about what has contributed to the closure, as well as how many children/families are affected.

Pioneer Baptist Drive sent the following letter to parents Monday announcing the closure:

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We are writing to share important news about our weekday childcare program, Pathways Learning Center. After much prayer and consideration, we have made the difficult decision to close our full-time, five-day-a-week daycare by August 15th.

This decision has not been taken lightly. Like many centers across our city and country, we have faced numerous challenges that have strained our ability to sustain a full-time daycare.

While our full-time daycare will close, our Children’s Day Out (CDO) program will continue. We believe this model will allow us to serve families well while being good stewards of our resources.

In the months ahead, we are committed to finishing strong, supporting our teachers to stay through this transition and ensuring your children are cared for through the summer. We will communicate with you if rooms need to close before August 15th. We are also actively working with other childcare providers to help connect both our teachers and your family with future options.

Thank you for trusting us with your children. It has been a joy and an honor to partner with you and your family. If you have questions or concerns, you can call Pathways Learning Center or email us via PLC@pioneerdrive.org. We are here to walk alongside you during this transition.

This closure comes just a week after another Abilene mainstay day care, His Little Angels, announced they are closing as well due to a lack of staffing.
