Suspect in series of Rockford burglaries sentenced to 3 months in jail

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Darryl Brooks has been convicted in connection with a series of burglaries on Rockford’s West side.

Brooks, 30, was developed as a suspect in multiple burglaries, attempted burglaries, trespassing, and other “suspicious” incidents in 2023.

Police circulated photos captured on several Ring doorbell cameras to help identify him.

As part of a negotiated plea on Monday, he was sentenced to 180 days (3 months) in jail, with credit given for 148 days (about 2 months) already served. The three counts of burglary charges were dismissed, and he pleaded guilty to three counts of Criminal Trespass to a Residence with a Person Present.

In addition to his sentence, Brooks must serve 30 months of probation.
