According to the Winnebago County Coroner’s Office, authorities were called to the scene in Lindenwood where Wendell Roby, Jr. was found lying in the road around 4:10 p.m.
Authorities said they believe Roby was driving northbound on IL 251 when he lost control and crashed.
He was taken to a Rockford hospital, but was pronounced dead at 6:16 p.m.
An autopsy concluded Roby died of blunt trauma to the head.
A GoFundMe was started to assist his family following Roby’s death.
“He leaves behind his precious 6-year-old daughter and a loving family who are now facing an unimaginable loss,” organizer Tasha Moreland wrote.
