According to Freeport Police, officers were alerted to the incident by a gunshot detection system, which sent them to the 1200 block of S. Galena Avenue, around 2:51 a.m.
The victim had been in his 2008 Honda, parked near the residence, when he was fired upon. Police said the rear window of the car had a bullet hole.
The investigation revealed there had been an altercation between the victim and Oscar Murillo-Ortez. When the fight was over, Murillo-Ortez reportedly went inside the home and retrieved a handgun and threatened to kill the victim, firing one shot in his direction.
Police were able to arrest Murillo-Ortez inside the home.
A search of the yard resulted in the finding of a loaded semi-automatic pistol.
A later search of the home turned up cocaine and additional ammunition, police said.
Murillo-Ortez has been charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm, reckless discharge of a firearm, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of a firearm without a Firearm Owner’s Identification.
