GREENWOOD, Ind. — Two Indianapolis residents have been preliminarily charged with robbery after a reported incident in Greenwood early Sunday morning.

According to a news release from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies from Johnson County were dispatched to the 400 block of San Marcos Drive in Greenwood at around 2:13 a.m. Sunday on a call of a reported armed robbery.

When deputies arrived, they found that three juveniles were the reported victims of an armed robbery. The release said two of the juveniles reportedly arranged to meet an individual to purchase narcotics.

When two of the juveniles entered a vehicle, two adult men, identified by the office as 20-year-old Joseph Goodwin and 20-year-old Cooper Nelson, reportedly “brandished firearms and proceeded to rob the juveniles.”

After obtaining a description of one of the suspects, the release said an investigation led them to a home on the west side of Indianapolis. The release said a search of the home led to the location of both Goodwin and Nelson, as well as the weapons allegedly used during the robbery.

The release said that Goodwin and Nelson were both preliminarily charged with robbery and theft. Goodwin was also preliminarily charged with battery in relation to the incident after he allegedly physically assaulted one of the juveniles during the incident.

“These juveniles are incredibly lucky this situation didn’t end in tragedy,” Johnson County Sheriff Duane Burgess said in the release. “With the rising number of homicides and gun-related incidents occurring just north of Johnson County, we must remain vigilant. This kind of behavior is unacceptable in our community. We are committed to enforcing all laws, not just selective ones, to protect our residents.”
