IMPD: Man struck by vehicle, killed during attempted robbery on Indy’s south side

INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis metro police have launched a homicide investigation after a man was struck and killed by a vehicle during a reported robbery on the city’s south side last week.

On May 15, officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded shortly after 11:30 p.m. to the 8000 block of Madison Avenue in response to a reported robbery of a person with injury.

IMPD said officers arrived on the scene and located an adult male, who a public police report identified as 62-year-old Charles Collins, who had reportedly been struck by a vehicle. The victim was initially transported to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition. IMPD confirmed he died two days later.

After further investigation, the Marion County Coroner’s Office officially labeled the incident as a homicide. IMPD’s Homicide Unit is now leading the investigation.
