The two-vehicle collision occurred just before 10 a.m. on southbound Highway 17 near Vine Hill Road in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Authorities said the bus carried between 20 and 30 kids, who sustained minor injuries.
The school district told KRON4 that the bus was rear-ended by a vehicle. The children and staff will continue to their science camp following the crash, according to the district.
The right lane of the southbound roadway remains closed as of 11 a.m., CHP said. Motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible and expect delays. There is no estimated time to fully reopen the roadway.
Further details on the crash were not immediately available.
The crash is the second incident involving a bus carrying children on Highway 17 over the past few days. On Friday, 32 children and five adults were safely evacuated from a charter bus that caught fire.
