RIRIE — A man was taken into custody Friday night after a standoff with troopers on U.S. Highway 26.
The incident began at about 9:30 p.m., when Idaho State Police responded to a report of a vehicle driving eastbound on US-26 near 175th East with a missing tire, running on the rim.
The driver pulled over, exited the vehicle, and entered a nearby field, according to an ISP news release.
At about 10 p.m. a trooper located the unoccupied vehicle with the engine running. At 10:23 p.m., the trooper located the suspect, who was armed with a rifle and made suicidal statements, prompting a standoff.
The Bonneville County SWAT team was called to assist.
The suspect surrendered without incident and was taken into custody at 12:02 a.m.
Trevor A. Clark, 34, of Ririe, was booked into the Bonneville County Jail and charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and assault on a peace officer.
