Video note: Despite this article’s time stamp, the above video is the latest forecast from The Weather Authority.

KENTUCKY (FOX 56) — The FOX 56 Weather Authority has confirmed that a tornado touched down in Pulaski County and is moving into Laurel County on Friday night into the early hours of Saturday morning.

Around 11:30 p.m. on Friday, FOX 56 chief meteorologist Justin Logan said that a tornado was moving toward Laurel County from Pulaski County at speeds of up to 45 miles per hour.

Tornadoes can be extremely dangerous, and the Weather Authority asked anyone in a mobile home in the London and Pulaski County areas to leave and seek shelter.

Just after 1 a.m. on Saturday, the Laurel County Fiscal Court posted on Facebook that a tornado had “pummeled” the area, sharing video of buildings, cars, trees, and other infrastructure damaged by the storm.

Around 1:15 a.m. on Saturday, the Corbin Police Department took to social media, asking the community to pray for tornado victims in Laurel County. The department wrote that officers responded to mutual aid calls to a debris field in the area, and what they saw made authorities emotional.

The Somerset Fire Department posted on Facebook around 11 p.m. on Friday that crews were dispatched to Stoplight 22 as well as the Parker’s Mill Road area in response to weather damage caused by tornado activity.

Fire officials in Somerset asked community members to stay indoors and not to travel to areas impacted by tornado damage so that crews could safely respond to emergency calls for rescue.

According to the FOX 56 weather team, the tornado was expected to enter the London area around 11:45 p.m.

Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 11 told FOX 56 News that troopers are working as hard as possible to respond to calls and asked that those in need of non-emergency help call their local law enforcement dispatch center, allowing those in need of emergency help to use 911.
