The coroner was called to the scene just before 11 p.m. on May 16 at the intersection of Edgefield Road and Sweetwater Road.

Officials say a Johnston man was riding a 2004 Harley-Davidson south on Edgefield Road around 10:30 p.m. when he hit a utility line from a downed traffic light. He was thrown from the motorcycle and pronounced dead at the scene around 11:10 p.m.

The victim has been identified as 53-year-old Jammy Weaver of Johnston, SC.

An autopsy will be performed next week in Newberry.
