Man accused of shooting ex-girlfriend’s friend in Baton Rouge arrested

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — A Baton Rouge man accused of shooting and hurting his ex-girlfriend’s friend was arrested.

According to an arrest affidavit, East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a shooting on May 14 in the 12400 block of Jefferson Highway. When they arrived, they found a victim suffering from gunshot wounds. The person was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Investigators learned from witnesses that the suspected shooter, identified as Jaworski Matthews, 19, is the ex-boyfriend of one of the people involved. According to the victim, Matthews had previously made threats and said he would “crash out” over the end of their relationship.

The victim screamed upon seeing Matthews, prompting her friends to come to her aid. A friend pulled her from the bathroom right when Matthews reportedly fired a shot, hitting someone else in the group. The victim and others ran from the apartment. Matthews chased them but later fled the area.

The victim later identified Matthews as the shooter. He was arrested and booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on charges of aggravated burglary and attempted first-degree murder. His bond was set at $145,000, according to jail records.
