NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Following the overnight escape of 10 inmates, former Orleans Parish Sheriff Marlon Gusman is weighing in on the incident.
While current Sheriff Susan Hutson has stated in the past that the facility was constructed inadequately, Gusman defended the design and construction of the jail, built after Hurricane Katrina and during Gusman’s tenure.
In an interview Friday afternoon, Gusman was also critical of how the incident is being handled by authorities, saying, “I’m hearing a lot of excuses, and this is no time for excuses”
Gusman also stated that he is still considering a run to regain his old seat in the upcoming October election.
