Father condemns Lafayette teachers after allegedly assaulting a student
LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) — A father of a student who was allegedly physically assaulted by Lafayette teachers has called for those involved to come forward and apologize for their actions.
“I was not aware of anything,” Sampy said. “I get the phone call actually from my mom on that day that that happened to my oldest son.”
The video went viral over the weekend. The video showed a woman leaning on a student and another coming up from behind and allegedly slapping the student in the back of the head.
“A video of an incident at Edgar Martin Middle, recorded during the 2023–2024 school year, began circulating on social media the weekend of May 10, 2025. The incident had not been reported prior to that time. LPSS launched an immediate investigation, resulting in the resignation of two paraprofessionals. Superintendent Touchet assures families that any misconduct involving students is taken seriously and will be addressed swiftly and appropriately. Student safety remains our top priority.”
“That ain’t enough for an autistic kid. Even though it happened a whole year ago, I’m speaking on behalf of my son, Zion Sampy.” Sampy said.
Sampy said Zion is doing fine and is still a student at Edgar Martin. All he is asking is for the teachers involved to come forward.
“I just want to tell the teachers that was involved. If they have a heart, have it in you to at least apologize to me and his mother for what happened.” Sampy said.
