Dead & Company Golden Gate Park shows commemorating 60th anniversary of Grateful Dead approved

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A proposal for a three-day concert event in Golden Gate Park in honor of the Grateful Dead’s 60th anniversary has been approved. The concerts will feature Dead & Company as a headliner and were proposed earlier this week by San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie.

The proposal for the concert was put before the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Commission on Thursday, where it was subsequently approved.

“It’s official! Dead & Company will perform three concerts at Golden Gate Park’s Polo Fields on August 1, 2 & 3, commemorating the 60th anniversary of the Grateful Dead,” SF Recs and Parks tweeted Thursday. “Mayor Daniel Lurie announced the proposal on Monday, which was approved by the Rec & Park Commission today.”

Dead & Company features original Dead singer/guitarist Bob Weir and long-time drummer Mickey Hart. Guitaring John Mayer is also a regular member of the group’s lineup.

“From Haight-Ashbury and the Grateful Dead house to Ingleside, where Jerry Garcia grew up, the Grateful Dead is embedded in San Francisco’s history,” said Mayor Lurie. “Sixty years later, we’re still enjoying their music—and this summer, we get to enjoy the music of Dead & Company once again. The weekend will celebrate our city’s creative spirit, boost our local economy, and bring generations of fans together. This is more than just a concert—it’s a San Francisco homecoming.”

This summer’s concert event will be produced by Another Planet Entertainment.
