Missing camper Tiffany Slaton found alive in Fresno County

FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – The Georgia woman who was reported missing in Fresno County over two weeks ago has been found alive, the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office announced Wednesday afternoon.

Deputies say 27-year-old Tiffany Slaton of Georgia was found safe near Lake Edison in Fresno County, in a cabin in Vermilion Valley Resort.

Slaton was reported missing on April 29 and was last seen on April 24.

Slaton was discovered when the owner of the resort was checking on his property near the lake and found that one of his cabins was occupied by a woman. Deputies say he was aware of an ongoing search for a missing woman and she matched the description. The owner contacted the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office to report his discovery.

Deputies then traveled up to Kaiser Pass Road and met with the owner and Slaton. After being examined by medical personnel, it was determined she was dehydrated but otherwise in good condition. She was transported to the hospital for treatment.

According to the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office, the road from Kaiser Pass back to Lake Edison was impassible due to snow, which was cleared away on Wednesday. That allowed the owner to get to the property to prepare it for the summer season. The owner told deputies that he had left a cabin unlocked as a precaution in case someone was trapped in the area and needed shelter – which is what Tiffany Slaton had done.

Slaton’s disappearance prompted a massive search from the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office. The most recent update came the day before she was found with a general appeal to anyone travelling in the area to keep a look out for her.

The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office has already informed Tiffany Slaton’s parents in Georgia about her being found safe. Detectives will be working with Tiffany Slaton to establish a timeline of events from her disappearance to her discovery.
