Felony charges filed in Far Northwest Side golf course crash that left man, 70, in ICU

CHICAGO (WGN) — Forest Preserves of Cook County officials on Wednesday announced felony charges in connection with a crash on a golf course that left a 70-year-old hospitalized in the ICU.

Tory L. Gardner, 30, of Cicero, faces one felony count of aggravated battery to a senior citizen with great bodily harm and unlawful use of a weapon following the Monday, May 12, incident at Billy Caldwell Golf Course.

According to forest preserve officials, Gardner allegedly drove a vehicle onto the Far Northwest Side area course and struck the 70-year-old golfer at the fifth hole.

Authorities allege Garner was “driving erratically,” and was reportedly brandishing a knife when exiting the vehicle at the scene.

Earlier this week, WGN News reported that first responders rushed the injured man to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston. As of Wednesday afternoon, the victim remains hospitalized in the ICU.

Garnder remains in police custody. Authorities did not provide a booking photo.
