Chester County man charged with murder of wife missing since 2017

(WPHL) — A Malvern man has been arrested and charged for his wife’s murder.

According to the Chester County District Attorney’s Office and the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP), Allen Gould, 60, is facing murder, evidence tampering, and other charges in connection to the death of his wife, Anna Maciejewska. Gould was taken into custody without incident.

“Anna Maciejewska’s disappearance in 2017 shocked the community,” Chester County District Attorney Christopher de Barrena-Sarobe said. “Thanks to the persistence and thorough investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police, we are able to start the process of getting justice for Anna and her family.”

On April 11, 2017, a coworker and a friend of Maciejewska each called the police to report her missing, according to the criminal complaint from PSP. The next day, Gould also called police to report his wife was missing.

When PA State Troopers visited Gould at the family home, he told police he last saw Maciejewska on April 10, when she was rushing out the door to drive to work that morning, and left her cell phone at home because the software was still updating.

PSP Investigators say Maciejewska stopped her normal routine on March 29, with the investigation revealing March 28 was the last time anyone saw her or heard her voice. Police used a combination of cell phone records, financial records, witness accounts, and other evidence to determine Maciejewska’s normal routine.

Contradictory evidence

The Chester County District Attorney’s Office says some of the evidence in the criminal complaint was contradictory.

According to Chester County District Attorney Christopher de Barrena-Sarobe, Maciejewska’s car was found a few miles away from the family home. Law enforcement searched the vehicle’s “internal data information” which revealed the car had not been driven or started on April 10 as Gould reported.

On March 30, Maciejewska’s father in Poland received a text message from her phone number wishing him a happy birthday in Polish. However, according to DA de Barrena-Sarobe, the message had grammatical errors, despite Maciejewska speaking “perfect Polish” as she grew up in Poland. PSP later determined the message was created using Google Translate.

Interviews conducted over the past 8 years conclude Anna Maciejewska was a devoted mother, and very close with her family in Poland. According to DA de Barrena-Sarobe, her supposed abandonment of her family is out of character.

DA de Barrena-Sarobe said after recovering documents and interviewing witnesses, he suspects a “difficult marriage” could have played into a possible motive. Gould told investigators he had a “good relationship” with his wife. Preliminary divorce papers were also found in the home.

Maciejewska’s body has yet to be found, de Barrena-Sarobe said.

“This case demonstrated a great collaboration between the Pennsylvania State Police and the Chester County District Attorney’s Office,” Pennsylvania State Police Colonel Christopher Paris said. “Though very heart-wrenching, it was diligently worked since 2017, and all involved investigators will continue to seek justice. My condolences go to the family and loved ones of the victim.”

Gould is currently being held without bail at the Chester County Prison.
