2nd child identified in sex abuse case against Fresno substitute teacher, police say

VISALIA, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A second child has been identified as a victim of the substitute teacher accused of contacting a child for sexual purposes, the Visalia Police Department said.

Two weeks ago, Visalia Police said they were made aware that 43-year-old Carlos Gonzalez of Fresno had been communicating with a 14-year-old girl online – officers say he was attempting to meet her this week.

However, Fresno County deputies arrested him Tuesday after detectives say they discovered he had initiated contact with another child via Kik, a free messaging app that allows users to send texts, images, and videos, often anonymously, using just a username rather than a phone number.

According to police, Gonzalez faces charges including suspicion of sending harmful material to a minor and attempting to meet a child with the intent to engage in sexual activity.

Due to his position as a certified substitute teacher for Fresno Unified, officers believe there may be additional victims.

Anyone with information related to this case or anyone who believes they may be a victim to contact Detective Juliana Castano at 559-369-9217. Tips can also be submitted to Valley Crime Stoppers at 559-498-7867; callers will remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward. Reference case #25-4836.
