Near Record heat arrives Wednesday!

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – Sunshine returned to the ArkLaTex on Tuesday, and with the rain threat finally over, our attention turns to heat and humidity.  Wednesday will be the hottest day of the year so far with near-record high temperatures.

How hot will Wednesday be?  So far in 2025, the hottest temperature recorded in the ArkLaTex has been 91 degrees.  Wednesday temperatures will easily eclipse that level of heat. Thanks to a breezy south-to-southwesterly wind on Tuesday night, temperatures on Wednesday morning will likely begin in the upper 60s to lower 70s.  Daytime highs on Wednesday will likely soar into the middle 90s.  The high in both Shreveport and Texarkana will likely be near 96 degrees.  Wednesday’s record in Shreveport is 98 degrees.  It’s 99 degrees in Texarkana. The heat index will likely approach, or even surpass, 100 degrees.  

Plenty of sunshine and no rain:  Futurecast shows that we will see a clear to partly cloudy sky on Tuesday night.  That will be followed by a mix of lots of sunshine and a few clouds during the day on Wednesday.  It will be rather windy on Wednesday with a southwesterly wind of around 15 mph.  We will then see an increase in clouds on Wednesday night, followed by a partly to mostly cloudy sky on Thursday.  The added clouds expected during the rest of the week will also take the edge off the heat.

Extended Outlook:  Our long-range weather picture shows mainly dry weather through Friday.  Temperatures will remain above normal through all of next week.  Most days will remain in the 90s.  Overnight lows will stay in the 70s.  We could see slightly cooler temperatures by the end of next week.  Rain will be very limited for most of the area.  We will see a chance of scattered storms early this weekend and again during the middle of next week.
