Nationwide outage affecting US passport verification

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — A nationwide outage is impacting U.S. passport verification, according to Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias.

Giannoulias posted a notice to “X” around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, saying, “Due to a nationwide outage, U.S. passport verification is currently unavailable. We are actively monitoring the situation and will provide updates as they become available.”

The secretary of state’s office has reassured that a process has been put in place and DMVs are not experiencing any delays as a result of the outage.

The office released the following statement:

We activated a process that we put in place to enable us to process U.S. passports and immigration documents from other countries at our DMV facilities. We are not experiencing any delays at our DMVs as a result.
