Louisiana’s public school ranks are climbing, and state superintendent Dr. Cade Brumley says it’s not by chance. According to U.S. News and World Report, Louisiana now ranks 37th in the nation for Pre-k through 12th grade education, that’s up from 41st two years ago.
Brumley says this new ranking comes from targeted programs such as after-school tutoring.
“And so we believe it’s absolutely critical that we maintain our tutoring program across the state of Louisiana, and make sure that we are continued to see funds allocated from the state legislature to do this really important work.” said Dr. Brumley.
Tutoring centers like MarvKevea’s learning center have played a critical role in helping students close learning gaps and build confidence.
“The secret is it’s all one on one, right? So we work with children one on one each day, every day, even on weekends at times to ensure that we are addressing their deficits and when I say deficits I’m meaning things that they’re struggling with.” said MarvKevea Campbell.
Dr. Brumley says the recent gains are a reflection of teachers and families who back their students.
“Look, we’re not ranked thirty-seventh by US News and World Report without the efforts of teachers. Teachers are doing amazing work across the state to really lift academic outcomes with kids and so they received so much of my appreciation for that effort.” said Dr. Brumley.
