The former Brother Martin Crusader is six strikeouts away from breaking the Lions’ career strikeout record (280) that was set by Bob Hardy in 1962.
“I think it’s just so beautiful that the reason he doesn’t get drafted is because he doesn’t strike enough guys out, and this year, he leads the conference, top ten in the country, and he’s going to break the school record for strikeouts. I mean, how cool is that? You know,” added Southeastern head coach Bobby Barbier.
Stuprich is also two innings away from the career innings pitched record (317.1) and one win away from breaking the career wins record (25).
The best part is that Stuprich can shatter these program marks in front of a home crowd when Southeastern faces UNO Thursday night in the Southland Conference Tournament.
“Being here for five years, playing baseball for four years, you know, it really would mean the world. These fans are truly the greatest. Being able to do it in front of my parents and friends and all that. Do it for these guys, and they play hard behind, you know, it’d be extremely fun to do it in Hammond. So I just can’t wait,” said Southeastern redshirt senior Brennan Stuprich.
Brennan Stuprich is coming off a rocky showing in game one of the Lions’ regular season series finale against Nicholls, but looks to bounce back against the Privateers.
In his first meeting with UNO this season, Stuprich punched out 11 batters in a 4-1 loss at Maestri Field.
He can help Southeastern secure its first win in the Hammond bracket Thursday at 6 p.m.
