According to Russell County Sheriff Heath Taylor, girls’ flag football coach Charles Davis, 45, and receptionist Courtney Jones, 25, were both arrested.
Davis was charged with:
Jones was charged with intimidating a witness and hindering prosecution.
According to Taylor, the investigation started back in February when students at Russell County High School reported a potential relationship between a student and a faculty member. Once the investigation started, the school put both Davis and Jones on administrative leave.
Taylor said officers looked through a year’s worth of video footage from the school. Investigators alleged Davis engaged in grooming the student.
Taylor said Jones’ involvement came in the form of communicating directly with the student when Davis could not. According to Taylor, Jones would contact the student during school hours and provided the student with a cell phone to contact Davis.
Davis was a resident of Atlanta and was hired on at Russell County High in October 2021. Jones was a resident of Phenix City and was hired on at the school in September 2023.
Davis was arrested and taken into custody by Fulton County police and the Russell County Sheriff’s Office. Davis is currently being held in the Fulton County Jail, but Taylor said Davis will be extradited to Russell County soon. Jones is out on bond.
