The Chicago Fire Department said crews were in the water near the boat dock at 31st Street Beach searching for a swimmer who had been reported missing at around 2 p.m. The unresponsive male swimmer was pulled from the water at around 3:15 p.m. and taken to University of Chicago Medical Center.
Just after 7 p.m. Monday, the Medical Examiner confirmed the swimmer pulled from the water had died.
One witness told WGN-TV said the victim appeared to jump off the wall and was trying to swim to shore when he went under.
Officials said water temperatures were quite cold Monday, which can create dangerous conditions for swimmers.
No other information was released.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
