SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — The annual Living Traditions Festival is coming up again this weekend, inviting Utahns to enjoy a diverse multicultural celebration.
The festival is produced by the Salt Lake City Arts Council, in partnership with the Utah Division of Arts & Museums. It will take place from May 16 – 18, Friday – Sunday, at Library Square. Admission to the event is free.
The Living Traditions Festival will feature a wide range of food, live performances, and art from the many communities and cultures that have made Utah their home. Additionally, there will be hands-on workshops, food demos, kids’ activities, and Sundance film screenings.
“The Living Traditions Festival supports diverse artistic traditions and perspectives through the presentation of both historical and contemporary customs. By facilitating thoughtful conversations around the unique qualities of various cultures and the similarities of the human experience, community bonds are created,” a press release said.
One highlight of the festival is that on Saturday, May 17, Grammy-winning Cuban-Canadian musician Alex Cuba will be a headliner, performing on the North Stage at 8:30 p.m. Cuba is known for blending funk, soul, and pan-Latin influences. His accomplishments include two Juno Awards, four Latin Grammys, and a 2022 Grammy Award for Best Latin Pop Album.
