Golfer in ICU after being struck at 5th hole by person ‘driving erratically’ on course

CHICAGO (WGN) — A golfer remained in an intensive care unit on Tuesday morning after being struck by a driver who was “driving erratically” on the course on the city’s far northwest side, authorities said.

The golfer, a 70-year-old man, was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston after being struck at the 5th hole at Billy Caldwell Golf Course about 5:30 p.m. Monday, a statement from the Cook County Forest Preserve Police Department said.

The driver was arrested by forest preserve officers and charges were pending Tuesday. Chicago police also responded to the course on the 6100 block of North Caldwell Avenue, in Chicago’s Forest Glen neighborhood.

A statement from management at the course expressed gratitude “for the swift response of law enforcement” and added they were supporting the efforts into the investigation but declined to comment further.
