According to Philadelphia Police, 30-year-old Qidere Johnson was fatally shot on Saturday just before 4:40 p.m. near the intersection of M Street and East Luzerne Street.
Officers responded to the scene following gunfire and were told that Johnson had been transported to Temple University Hospital by private vehicle.
Johnson was pronounced dead at 4:56 p.m.
Johnson was a rapper in Philadelphia who was known for being the “voice of the youth”.
In his music, Johnson advocated for gun violence prevention and bettering the lives of the youth.
“He had dreams of bettering his community using rap to influence the mindsets of the youth. So young, so much talent. Qidere was known to his friends and family as someone who would ride til the wheels would fall off,” said a post by the Instagram account, lgp_qua.updates.
“Qidere deserved to grow old. In neighborhoods and systems that deemed us less, Qidere wanted the youth in Philadelphia to know it was more for them to achieve. Qidere felt like if he could beat the odds, any of these kids could,” the post continued.
Famous rapper, Meek Mill, spoke out in his Instagram story saying, “Killing ambitious young bulls like this on Mother’s Day is a Philly type of thing… S— will make you different. Prayers to your family, and let’s collect some of them guns. S— sad out here.”
At this time, police have not made any arrests.

A $20,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individual(s) responsible.
