Essential Air Service cuts expected to affect Boone County Regional Airport

Recently, the White House proposed a cut of $308 million to the Essential Air Service program. The reduction could disproportionately impact rural areas and have a significant impact on the Boone County Regional Airport.

Gerald Gaige serves as the Baxter County Airport Support Network Volunteer for the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, and he says the cuts could indirectly affect the Baxter County Regional Airport as well.

Gaige says the government has been subsidizing smaller airlines for local airports in order to maintain an active national airspace system.
