DAVIS COUNTY, Utah (
ABC4) — The Great Salt Lake Bird Festival is happening in Davis County this coming week, offering up a four-day celebration of Utah’s rich diversity of birds.
Organized by Discover Davis, the Davis County Commission, and a network of of community and industry partners, the festival showcases the unique ecological importance of the Great Salt Lake. More than 250 bird species visit the lake each year, making it a major destination for our feathered friends.
Festival headquarters will be located at the George S. and Dolores Doré Eccles Wildlife Education Center at Farmington Bay Waterfowl Management Area. Located at the edge of Great Salt Lake, this spot offers birders access to some of the most scenic bird habitats in the region.
This year’s festival includes over 50 field trips and 15 workshops, many of which offer “behind the gates” access to restricted wildlife areas. Attendees will be able to check out some of Utah’s most beautiful State Parks, State Wildlife Areas, and National Refuge areas — and Utah is known for its diverse habits, including vast desserts, high mountain peaks, rushing rivers, and the saltiest lake in the country.
This range of habitats creates a birder’s paradise.
The festival will take place over four days, and enthusiasts will have the chance to sit down for a night, socialize, have dinner, and listen to a keynote address at the Davis Conference Center.
Free educational workshops will also be available for participants. Additionally, the festival hosts an annual family day, where all ages are invited to learn about birds, participate in hands-on activities, and even do some birdwatching of their own.
