What is Mercy Corps’ future after budget cuts, building sale?

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Mercy Corps’ stated mission is to alleviate poverty, suffering and oppression around the world. But their work is already being affected by the Trump administration’s freezes and cuts to foreign aid.

Mercy Corps operates in more than 40 countries, providing disaster assistance, wartime relief, as well as humanitarian aid. They have nearly 6,000 team members, most from the countries in which they work.

Kate Phillipps-Barrasso is vice president of policy and advocacy for Mercy Corps.

She joined Eye on Northwest Politics from her offices in Washington, D.C. to talk about the organization’s future.
