New Orleans’ Harkins, The Florist makes Mother’s Day special one rose at a time

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Whether it’s flowers or rose petals, for years, Harkins, The Florist has been a go-to spot for Mother’s Day arrangements.

“The moms love tulips. A hydrangea is very popular, and I think this year our most popular arrangement has some stargazer lilies,” said florist Alexandra Theodorakos.

Theodorakos says Mother’s Day is always a high-volume holiday, prepping in advance to make sure everyone finds a perfect bouquet for a special woman in their life.

“Our incredible design manager, Sabrina, ensures all the products are top-notch. She gets here early every morning, goes through all of it, and takes out anything that we would not give to the moms on the most important day. We’re constantly changing water. We’re constantly trimming the ends and keeping things fresh,” said Theodorakos.

As the arrangements line the front of the shop, those at the shop say it’s fulfilling to see the joy they bring to customers.

“Seeing people’s faces light up when we can give them the arrangements, and they’re bringing them to their mom. Just making sure that their moms are appreciated and being a part of people’s lives in that way is what’s really special about it,” said Theodorakos.

As Sed Wallace stopped by to pick up his flowers, he says he always trusts Harkins, The Florist for the best roses in town.

“My mom means everything to me. That’s my favorite lady in the whole world. Well, she gave birth to me. If it weren’t for her, none of us would be here. I love my mom, and I love my lady,” said Wallace.
