Motorcyclist falls due to distillery spill in Lawrenceburg

LAWRENCEBURG, Ky. (FOX 56) — Crews in Lawrenceburg worked to clean up mash off of an intersection on Sunday.

The Lawrenceburg Fire Department said crews responded to Highway 44 and 127 after a motorcyclist fell trying to stop at the red light due to a hazardous spill of distillery mash across the road.

LATEST KENTUCKY NEWS:

The department said mash, a byproduct of the bourbon-making process, can be slippery when it coats the pavement, posing a serious danger to both motorists and pedestrians.

“This type of substance reduces tire traction and braking ability, especially for two-wheeled vehicles like motorcycles,” the department said on Facebook.

Officials reportedly used shovels to clear the bulk of the mash before washing down the road to remove any remaining residue

“We appreciate everyone’s patience this morning and want to remind our community to always use caution around unexpected road conditions. If you see something hazardous in the roadway, report it immediately to local dispatch or law enforcement,” the department said.
