Second person convicted in overdose death of Bush teen
ST. TAMMANY PARISH, La. (WGNO) — A second person has been convicted in connection to the overdose death of a Bush teenager, after another person was convicted back in December of 2024.

According the 22nd Judicial District Attorney’s Office and the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office, on July 12, 2022, deputies responded to the home of 43-year-old Felisia Grantham where a 15-year-old girl was found dead in a bedroom with drugs and drug paraphernalia around.

Grantham, the girl’s cousin, was arrested and later found guilty of second-degree murder and distribution of a narcotic drug to a person under age 18. She was sentenced to life in prison back in April.

Through further investigation, 23-year-old Covington drug dealer Alvin Laurant Jr. was identified as the supplier of drugs which caused the teen’s overdose, and arrested. Laurant was questioned and his home was searched, where pills similar to those at the scene of the teen’s death were found.

On May 8, After deliberating for 35 minutes, a jury unanimously pronounced Laurant guilty of second-degree murder, which carries a mandatory life sentence. His sentencing is scheduled for June 18.
