Breaux Bridge family seeks justice after fatal hit and run
BREAUX BRIDGE, La. (KLFY)- The family of 79-year-old Frank Davis is still seeking answers nearly one year after he struck and killed by a vehicle.

The family said the incident happened on Rees Street the morning of July 31, 2024 around 9am. Davis’ loved ones say he was riding his bicycle on Rees Street the driver of the vehicle struck him from behind.

Davis later died from his injuries. Rena Lastrape, Davis’ daughter, said the family is still grieving over this loss.

“I think about it all the time, I can hardly sleep at night,” said Lastrape.

Lastrape said she was at work when she got a call her father was involved in a deadly crash. She said when she got to the scene, it was too late.

“The day that happened it was about nine o’clock in the morning, I was on my way to work, and I got a call to go see about your daddy,” said Davis. “I got there, my daddy was laying on the ground, got hit by a truck, it was so hard to see him down there, it was nothing I could’ve done.”‘

It’s been 10 months since the crash, and family members said Breaux Bridge Police have not yet made any arrests or charges.

“I just want to know exactly what happened, how did it happen, because nobody not telling us nothing, they told us nothing,” Lastrape said.

Mary Noel, a family member, said the crash happened just weeks before what would have been his 80th birthday.

“It was just by his birthday,” said Noel. “He didn’t get a chance to celebrate his birthday, I think his birthday was the next month, we couldn’t celebrate it because we were sad, he was too much of a good person,” said Noel.

The family said they will remember Frank for his good cooking, his kindness, and willingness to help anyone in need. However, they say they are still upset the driver who hit Davis has not been charged.

“He’s going on with his life, but we’ve got a part of us missing,” Noel said. “We talked about it all the time, everytime when we get together we just start talking about it, nothing is getting done, this is not right.”

If anyone has any information on the crash, you are advised to contact the Breaux Bridge Police Department at 337-332-2186.
