It was a markedly cooler day Thursday, especially for areas close to Lake Michigan where highs there struggled to make it out of the 40s. Readings were noticeably warmer far west and southwest of Chicago where highs topped out near 70 degrees.
The official 58 degree high was not only 10 degrees below normal, but a full 17-degrees lower than Wednesday’s high temperature despite a good deal of afternoon sunshine following a cloudy open.
Winds were strong, gusting past 30 mph at times, from the northeast off Lake Michigan’s still chilly lake waters.
