The funding is part of $4.8 million in federal funds awarded to Illinois airports by the U.S. Department of Transportation.
“By improving and modernizing airport infrastructure, we are laying the foundation for increased connectivity and reliability,” said Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL). “Today’s announced federal funding for upgrading our airports across Illinois will enhance the travel experience for passengers and promote economic growth. I will continue working with Senator Duckworth to ensure Illinois airports have the necessary federal resources to keep passengers safe and connected.”
Airports in Flora, Danville, and Wheeling also received funding.
The Rockford airport recently announced a 27% growth in travelers for the first quarter of 2025, a new destination of Huatulco, Mexico, and seasonal direct flights to Nashville, Tennessee.
