The foundation awarded more than $13.2 million in grants to schools, nonprofit organizations, and libraries that promote literacy, with some funds going to local organizations.
Louisiana was awarded more than $200,000. Organizations in Bossier City, Greenwood, Natchitoches, and Shreveport were among those rewarded.
Texas organizations received approximately $580,000, with Texarkana, Tyler, and Mt. Enterprise included.
Over $170,000 went to Arkansas, including El Dorado, Magnolia, and Texarkana.
The grants are awarded “to support schools, public libraries, and nonprofit organizations within a 15-mile radius of a Dollar General store or distribution center in implementing new literacy initiatives or expanding existing ones.”
Dollar General Literacy Foundation Executive Director credits the recipients, explaining, “We are grateful to all the grant recipients for their commitment to advancing education and helping students thrive.”
The Dollar General Literacy Foundation is planning to launch its sixth Yellow Glasses Project in July. Customers can purchase yellow sunglasses to benefit the DGLF.
