Four Holy Cross errors allowed Brother Martin to take a five-run lead in the first four innings of play. A two-RBI knock from Cole Navarro in the fifth would extend the Crusader lead to 7.
Holy Cross responded in the bottom of the fifth with a four-run outburst, but their offense would go cold after that.
Cole Navarro eliminated any threat by retiring the final nine batters he faced. Navarro pitched a complete game in the 26th win of his Brother Martin career.
Game two of the series is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Friday at Holy Cross Park, weather permitting.
