A preliminary investigation determined that both the driver of the vehicle and the bicyclist were traveling southbound on Middlefield Road when the driver began to turn right onto Prior Lane. During the turn, the vehicle struck the bicyclist who was traveling in the bike lane, police said.

The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with authorities, Atherton PD said. Drugs or alcohol are not believed to be contributing factors in the fatal crash.
