AMERICAN FALLS — A woman survived overnight after she drove off a cliff in a remote area near the Snake River.
According to a news release from the Power County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded Wednesday to a car found below Massacre Rocks State Park along the Snake River.
Deputies say the incident occurred sometime Tuesday night. The car had gone over a cliff in a remote area along the river, and was not found until 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, when a person drifting by on a boat spotted a woman amid the wreckage.
“Emergency personnel from the Power County Sheriff’s Office, American Falls Police Department, Power County Search and Rescue, Air Rescue, Idaho Fish and Game and Fort Hall Fish and Game Boat Rescue, and Power County Ambulance services were immediately dispatched to the scene,” the sheriff’s office said in the release. “Due to the remote location and terrain, multiple agencies worked together to safely reach and extract the victim.”
The woman, who was hurt, was rescued and transported by air ambulance to a nearby hospital for further medical evaluation.
The Power County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash. EastIdahoNews.com will update when more information is available.
“We commend the swift and coordinated efforts of all responding agencies and thank the boat passenger whose alert observation led to a successful rescue,” the sheriff’s office said. “The Power County Sheriff’s Office reminds the public to exercise caution in remote and rugged areas.”
