Officers responded to the scene near 6600 SW Capitol Hwy around 11:50 a.m. where they say they found one adult person injured in the parking lot of Fanno Creek Medical Clinic.
The director of the medical clinic told KOIN 6 he ran out to the parking lot where he saw the man on the ground with a gunshot wound in his chest and treated him.
“There was like a bullet bulging out of the skin, but it hadn’t broken the skin in the back. So (I) basically just put pressure there. Unfortunately, I don’t think it was anything I did, but the bleeding stopped, and it just held it there until the EMT came,” said Dr. Gregg Coodley.
“The involved armed security officer, who is employed by the preschool, remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation,” police added. “No suspects are being sought and there is no known ongoing danger to the community.”
No children were involved in the incident, according to law enforcement, as the shooting took place off school grounds. However, the school is currently notifying parents to come pick up their kids.
An investigation closed SW Vermont Street between Capitol Highway and 24th Avenue. No arrests have been made as of 12:30 p.m.
